Candida Albicans

Candida albicans is fungus or yeast that is found everywhere in the body especially the digestive tract and the vagina. The beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract and female urogenital system control the growth of candida. The overgrowth of candida is caused by excessive and abuse of antibiotics. Antibiotics kill the good, beneficial bacteria. Candida then begins to proliferate because the natural growth control is no longer present. This causes thrush in babies and young children and candida in adult men and women (Although candida is mostly common in women, men can be affected too).

The contraceptive pill disturbs the normal hormonal balance in the female urogenital system and can also result in excessive growth of candida.

Diabetics are also prone to candida infections as candida organisms flourish in a sugary environment – if you have problems with candida you should have a glucose tolerance test.
