Candida are yeast that normally inhabits our digestive system: the mouth, throat, intestines and genitourinary tract. Our immune system is suppose to keep it under control. It is normal to have small amounts of Candida so the friendly and protective bacteria in our body called “Acidophillus and Bifidus” can use it as food. When something happens to kill off these friendly bacteria the Candida cells begin to multiply out of control.

Candidiasis is an infection caused by a species of the yeast Candida, usually the Candida albicans fungus. Candida is found on various parts of the bodies of almost all normal people but causes problems in only a few. Candidiasis can affect the skin, nails, and mucous membranes throughout the body including the mouth (thrush), esophagus, vagina (yeast infection), intestines, and lungs.

Candida species are ubiquitous fungi found throughout the world as normal body flora. Unfortunately, candidiasis is also the most common mycotic infection, causing a variety of diseases. Candidiasis can range from superficial disorders such as diaper rash to invasive, rapidly fatal infections in immunocompromised hosts.

Candidiasis, also known as a “yeast infection” or VVC, is a common fungal infection that occurs when there is overgrowth of the fungus called Candida. Candida is always present in the body in small amounts. However, when an imbalance occurs, such as when the normal acidity of the vagina changes or when hormonal balance changes, Candida can multiply. When that happens, symptoms of candidiasis appear.

Candida albicans (sometimes referred to as monilia) is a fungus that is normally present on the skin and in mucous membranes such as the vagina, mouth, or rectum. The fungus also can travel through the blood stream and affect the throat, intestines, and heart valves.

Chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis is a heterogeneous disorder of the immune system. Chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis may be characterized by persistent candida infections of the mucous membranes, scalp, skin and nails. It may be secondary to one of the immunodeficiency syndromes, inherited as an autosomal recessive trait. Candida is a fungus of the yeast category.

Mucocutaneous candidiasis is a rare condition occurring in childhood in which candida infection is persistent and widespread. It is a heterogeneous disorder of the immune system. The patients with mucocutaneous candidiasis have an increased incidence of autoimmune disorders including endocrine disorders, diabetes, hemolytic anemia, autoimmune hair loss or loss of skin pigment. Mucocutaneous candidiasis may be characterized by persistent candida infections of the mucous membranes, scalp, skin and nails.

Causes

This organisms are always exist in all people,. The Candida albicans organism is found in the vaginas of almost all women and generally causes no harm. But when there is imbalance with the other normal flora,It results to yeast infection. Some antibiotics , and diabetes mellitus can cause an increased incidence in yeast infections.

Candidiasis simulates number of organ systems in the body.They generally exist in warm moist body region such as underarms of the body exposed to the environment is susceptible to infection.Generally skin effectively stops yeast, but any injuries or cuts in the skin may permit this organism to penetrate.They affected the infants in the areas include the mouth and diaper areas.
